[The message goes out late enough that most people might have already fallen asleep for the night. It will be there in the morning, though. Martin is in pain, he's having trouble sleeping because of it, and people should definitely know about the boar. Even if it was just trying to defend itself in fear... Martin's not feeling his most sympathetic toward it right now.]
Hi, everyone!
I wanted to mention a conversation I had with Sol recently and also issue a general sort of warning.
Warning:
The boars around here are skittish and will potentially charge you.
If you have any food out, please make sure it's hidden as well as it can be.
The one I encountered was trying to eat our fish at the airstrip.
We can bring it into a hangar.
If you can get your food up into a tree if you're out in the wilds, that's probably best.
Boars naturally root around in the ground for things.
Or, if you've got a hard container, you can maybe put your food in there.
That's what I'll be doing for the waystations to try to dissuade anything from eating what they shouldn't.
Sol:
For anyone who doesn't know, Sol is one of the people on a nearby island.
They're probably one of the Glencolans that the PacAirs told us about.
They have strongly advised against trying to get across the ocean to their island.
There's something they call 'the trench,' which is where some sort of giant creature lives.
I think it's probably the whale god that the PacAirs believe in.
I know there are plans to maybe try rafting out, but I don't think that's a good idea.
I think a better plan is trying to get one of the drones we have reprogrammed and operational.
Then find anything like a camera and fix it to that so we can try to get photos or video.
Even someone's mobile if it still has a charge might work.
Jet also found a whole big hotel to explore.
There are a couple of places we could look for more and better supplies.
Just so we can be safe instead of risking people's lives.

A boar so close to the village? I'd been searching for game trails nearby with little luck before the storm.
Was anyone harmed?
We should consider having spears available near where food is processed. I wish I had been carrying my bow when I was taken.
Those young men wish to die at sea ardently enough that I doubt we can dissuade them. Do you think they’d be inviting retribution on the rest of us?
I admit, I'm afraid of the drone. Would someone else be able to wrest power over their orders away from us as we have done?
no subject
But I'll survive.
Don't worry about that.
I think part of what the Pacairs seem to have said indicates there might be retribution.
We could send an envoy to their village to ask, though?
The way Sol was talking, anything that tries to go over the trench will get killed.
Even flying things.
But I still think it's safer to test with something like the drone, rather than people on a raft.
It's definitely possible that someone else could take over control of the drone, but if it's just one and it's on limited battery power, there's really only so much damage it could do.
Especially if we take out any potential weapons functions before turning it on.
Which I think would be sensible.
no subject
It would be smart to open dialogue with the other people here who are not hostile either way. They may be open to trade for some of the goods Senku creates.
I know that Senku is careful with the drone but after everything it's difficult not to be nervous around it.

And there are a couple of bunker-style buildings in the middle and northern parts of the island where they came from originally.
There's probably scraps and things like that still in there.
Or, like I said, the hotel Jet found might have stuff that tourists left that we could repurpose.

With any luck and provided this island isn't much bigger than anticipated, I'll be there in a day or two.
[Senku successfully lured him over with the promise of those drones. Also, Jade should be there.]
Does your group have any tools?
It'd make the whole endeavor much easier.
I can only do so much with a broken sword, however awesome said sword was.

And how big are the boars?
I already made a couple sturdy spears for fishing — roughly sanded shafts with sharpened ends, no blades — but they should be serviceable for hunting boars if anyone with a strong arm cares to try. I left them propped near the communal tools at the airfield. I could also make some for your waystations if they'd be useful.
Do you think Sol can be trusted?
That would be a good use for the reprogrammed drones. Unfortunately I believe Senku is also wanting to personally test the resurrection process here.
no subject
I think my pride's hurt more than anything.
It wasn't even that big.
Like, I've seen giant bears and dinosaurs and sharks and shark-creatures.
And it's a little pig that takes me out.
[Is he a joke to you, PacAir/Vast whale thing?]
Oh, that reminds me.
I checked on your weir at the river, and I'm really sorry.
It got washed away. :c
I have other fishing supplies I've been using for things, though, that I can leave at the base.
Except maybe one thing?
Just so we can catch food along the way.
Save more for the waystation.
I think I probably need to heal up a little bit before trying to go boar hunting.
But if he need to do it, then we need to do it.
I think Sol is giving me as much information as they feel safe giving out.
[Which is to say that he trusts them to a point, but certainly not implicitly.]
Some of the stuff I've asked about they've avoided answering, and I'm not sure why.
But they've been kind to me.
And as far as I can tell, they haven't lied.
When they say the trench has a giant monster whale in it and that's what the PacAirs call a god... that's enough corroborating evidence I'm willing to take them at their word.
I think someone should try to talk Senku out of that, then.
All that brainpower, I'm sure they could get through.
[And god, he wishes smart people weren't so utterly dumb sometimes.]
no subject
I know how you feel. I've done all kinds of dangerous things here, but my first real injury was of all things a catfish bite.
And I had an audience when it happened. I was the evening's entertainment.
But I did catch the bugger. About five feet long.
I didn't expect the weir would survive the storm. It's okay. I can rebuild it.
Don't worry about leaving all your supplies, either. You should really carry extras in case.
As soon as I'm back at the airfield, I intend to give boar hunting a go myself. Hopefully I can start building back up the food stores.
I'll save some bacon just for you.
[ You'll be avenged, Martin! ]
That's very interesting. I've yet to talk to Sol. Maybe I should.
For the record, I agree with you. What you said to Senku about not treating death so lightly or as an easy solution to problems.
Like Randvi mentioned, some animal anatomy here is nonsensical to the point it's unclear how they're actually alive. I suspect we could also incur such changes with each death.
Or maybe something worse. We just don't know what the cost is yet. But I feel reasonably certain there IS one.
[ Because this isn't an idyllic world created by a benevolent godling who loves them and wants the best for them. Death must have consequences, and he has a sinking feeling that it's going to come as a nasty surprise for those who have already died here before once they start experiencing said consequences. He cares for Senku and Squalo both, and doesn't relish the thought of them suffering too. ]

[ Showing his hand that he DOES read all the conversations but he's not worried. ]
1. The only way to understand the death respawn is to keep doing it. I would never risk someone else's life and not my own.
2. Is this trench only in the direction of the Glencolans' island? There's a lot of other ocean out there to look at. We don't HAVE to go there.
3. Hell yeah I wanna fly a drone out over the water. We need a power source though. I can make one but I can't charge it from nothing. We should try to build a hydropower station. The river is unpredictable but it could still work.
I'm not ENTIRELY unreasonable but I wanna see what the parameters are. No whale can be everywhere at once.
no subject
[That means he shouldn't have to repeat himself.]
1. There is absolutely no reason to try to understand that, not by getting yourself killed.
What are you testing for?
When it breaks?
When someone comes back wrong?
In the end, that just gets people killed for the sake of curiosity, and I don't think that's a good enough reason.
I also happen to--['know,' he doesn't type]--think people dying repeatedly isn't going to be good for their mental health.
Even if you wake up, you've still died.
Haven't people been traumatized enough?
[Jon might disagree, but he's not here right now.]
2. My impression from my conversation with Sol is that it's big enough that they thought going anywhere on the ocean was a bad idea.
I'd suggest asking the PacAirs.
3. Sure, that sounds like a great idea. When I get back from setting up a couple of waystations, I'm happy to help out with it however you need me to.
Maybe we could repurpose some of the solar panels we've seen around the island.
That hotel probably has a wealth of supplies if we can figure out how to get up to it safely. Jet's just one guy. I don't think he could have explored everything.

I've died repeatedly and I'm fine.

You know those reasons are why I don’t just go around asking people to die. Shark guy has his own thing. Anyway, I wanted to explore how far we could get and whether we could get to this Glencolan island thing. Looks like we can't, but like I said: there's more ocean than that. I'm not planning to die on purpose! But if it happens, I'm sure I'll learn something. I died once before and I'm fine. Unless someone comes along and explains it to us, no other way to know.
[ Unresolved PTSD isn't "fine" but whatever, right? ]
2. I guess we could pay a visit to the pacairs. I'm gonna ask Leopard about it when I meet them but I don't know if they actually know anything or if they just stay up near the volcano and talk to gods. And play video games, apparently.
3. If we can find some damn TOOLS we can build something that generates hydropower. But finding things like saws and axes hasn't gone well. Making them is a pain in the ass and to make saws I'd have to not only build a forge but find iron. I don't think anyone wants to take weeks to get shit done but sometimes that's how it goes. As for the hotel, Randvi and Stephanie went up it too. If there was something stable at the top we could conceivably make a pulley system, something for people to hang onto, but I'm not so sure there is. Have to just risk it and hope the reward is good.

Somehow I get the feeling that's not going to stop Squalo though. I think we've all told him he's 100% going to die, he doesn't seem to care.
If it needs to be climbed I am so in on Mt Hotel II
no subject
Unless they've... forgot what a whale looks like?
I get people wanting to experiment or explore to see what we can find, but we haven't even fully explored the island.
It just feels premature to go off sailing into the ocean when we have no idea where we are relative to any mainland.
I like Squalo.
I don't want him to die, either.
Because there's no guarantees the revival that worked for other people will work for him.
But hotel, yeah.
That's a lot more fruitful, I think.
There has to be a lot of stuff tourists and maintenance workers and stuff might have left behind.
Tools and things we could use on those drones.
no subject
Anyway, there's no guarantee that revival works even remotely like we seem to be assuming. But you can't really force people to care about the possibility of actually dying. They're not wrong about the odds. I don't want anyone getting killed because they think they're invincible either, but all you can do is give them the facts and hope for the best.
Weirdly, we found basically nothing inside the other hotel. It actually looked like nobody was staying there at all when it got struck by lightning. The bottom floors are a disaster of course, but the only evidence of life I found was the map plugin, and it was the only thing in the drawer.

Unclear if it rings the whole island, but possibly.
The giant creature is enormous.
Sol wouldn't give me exact measurements, but he seemed to think a drone flying 15 meters up would still get caught by it.
I like you alive.
And with all your organs in the right configuration and number.
Sorry to be a buzzkill.
1/3
It can't be everywhere at once though can it
The trench sounds like a good place to hide a creature like that but not to fence in an entire island at once
And if that's not what is keeping us in
Then I wanna know what it is

Stay safe out there, Martin. [Because you sound like The Voice of Reason right now and we can't lose that.]

Just... avoid it? On the ocean. In a raft.
Working on convincing Senku that's probably not the best idea and he's being reasonable!
It's a nice change from some of the people I know from home.
