[The message goes out late enough that most people might have already fallen asleep for the night. It will be there in the morning, though. Martin is in pain, he's having trouble sleeping because of it, and people should definitely know about the boar. Even if it was just trying to defend itself in fear... Martin's not feeling his most sympathetic toward it right now.]
Hi, everyone!
I wanted to mention a conversation I had with Sol recently and also issue a general sort of warning.
Warning:
The boars around here are skittish and will potentially charge you.
If you have any food out, please make sure it's hidden as well as it can be.
The one I encountered was trying to eat our fish at the airstrip.
We can bring it into a hangar.
If you can get your food up into a tree if you're out in the wilds, that's probably best.
Boars naturally root around in the ground for things.
Or, if you've got a hard container, you can maybe put your food in there.
That's what I'll be doing for the waystations to try to dissuade anything from eating what they shouldn't.
Sol:
For anyone who doesn't know, Sol is one of the people on a nearby island.
They're probably one of the Glencolans that the PacAirs told us about.
They have strongly advised against trying to get across the ocean to their island.
There's something they call 'the trench,' which is where some sort of giant creature lives.
I think it's probably the whale god that the PacAirs believe in.
I know there are plans to maybe try rafting out, but I don't think that's a good idea.
I think a better plan is trying to get one of the drones we have reprogrammed and operational.
Then find anything like a camera and fix it to that so we can try to get photos or video.
Even someone's mobile if it still has a charge might work.
Jet also found a whole big hotel to explore.
There are a couple of places we could look for more and better supplies.
Just so we can be safe instead of risking people's lives.

[That means he shouldn't have to repeat himself.]
1. There is absolutely no reason to try to understand that, not by getting yourself killed.
What are you testing for?
When it breaks?
When someone comes back wrong?
In the end, that just gets people killed for the sake of curiosity, and I don't think that's a good enough reason.
I also happen to--['know,' he doesn't type]--think people dying repeatedly isn't going to be good for their mental health.
Even if you wake up, you've still died.
Haven't people been traumatized enough?
[Jon might disagree, but he's not here right now.]
2. My impression from my conversation with Sol is that it's big enough that they thought going anywhere on the ocean was a bad idea.
I'd suggest asking the PacAirs.
3. Sure, that sounds like a great idea. When I get back from setting up a couple of waystations, I'm happy to help out with it however you need me to.
Maybe we could repurpose some of the solar panels we've seen around the island.
That hotel probably has a wealth of supplies if we can figure out how to get up to it safely. Jet's just one guy. I don't think he could have explored everything.

I've died repeatedly and I'm fine.
[ and clearly he is the picture of great mental health ]

Who also apparently hops around universes.
You are so far from a normal person yardstick you're not even in the same postcode.

Well, I can't argue with that.
Fair enough.

You know those reasons are why I don’t just go around asking people to die. Shark guy has his own thing. Anyway, I wanted to explore how far we could get and whether we could get to this Glencolan island thing. Looks like we can't, but like I said: there's more ocean than that. I'm not planning to die on purpose! But if it happens, I'm sure I'll learn something. I died once before and I'm fine. Unless someone comes along and explains it to us, no other way to know.
[ Unresolved PTSD isn't "fine" but whatever, right? ]
2. I guess we could pay a visit to the pacairs. I'm gonna ask Leopard about it when I meet them but I don't know if they actually know anything or if they just stay up near the volcano and talk to gods. And play video games, apparently.
3. If we can find some damn TOOLS we can build something that generates hydropower. But finding things like saws and axes hasn't gone well. Making them is a pain in the ass and to make saws I'd have to not only build a forge but find iron. I don't think anyone wants to take weeks to get shit done but sometimes that's how it goes. As for the hotel, Randvi and Stephanie went up it too. If there was something stable at the top we could conceivably make a pulley system, something for people to hang onto, but I'm not so sure there is. Have to just risk it and hope the reward is good.
[ JUST LIKE WITH THE OCEAN THING, SEE. ]

And if that happens, then you’ve learned nothing and we’ve just lost one of the smartest people on this island.
Maybe you don’t care about that, but I do.
Please consider that it’s going to make everything exponentially harder for everyone else if you die.
I’m not saying we can’t take any risks ever, but there’s a difference between a necessary risk and one that’s just about knowing something for the sake of it.
Without the other island as a destination, you don’t have an end goal from what you’ve said here. It’s just sailing out to see what’s there… maybe. If you can find anything before you get eaten or die from exposure.
I’m also really not keen to learn about something that has the potential to be used to justify not bothering to help someone.
If the assumption is ‘oh, they’ll just come back anyway,’ or ‘oh, you can fix that broken leg by just dying,’ then desperate people are going to do stupid and horrible things to themselves and each other.
I don’t WANT that to be part of a triage assessment.
So, I think it’s better we just assume that death is permanent and make our decisions based on that.
2. You’re going to meet with the Leopard???
Okay.
When did that happen?
3. I talked to Steph about the idea.
I don’t think they’ve actually been up, yet.
But that’s a tangible goal with athletic people who know what they’re doing climbing. If they can even just get a rope up to the top of the ridge, that would make it possible for others to get up and/or lower things down.
[Stamp of approval for calculated risks that do not involve being eaten!]

1. I see your point. But I do have another goal. There were lights in the water, remember? That's my goal if we're not going to the island.
2. You know that game I was playing during the storm? I beat the high score on it. Had a discussion with the previous top score holder. It was a pretty weird conversation but I'm gonna go see them, yeah. They don't seem keen to have anyone in their territory so this isn't a group expedition or we might all die. I only confirmed that it's Leopard because the Hunter told me that earlier today. I wasn't actually sure which of them was which there for a minute.
3. The hotel is a tangible goal, I agree. So is the drone thing, once we overcome the lack of power. Which we will.
[ Unfortunately for Senku he definitely gets into trouble doing reckless shit after this conversation
I'm fudging time on this a little but whateverbut is he going to tell anyone about that and prove Martin's point? Not immediately. ]no subject
Okay. Good.
Has anyone found goggles? Or something that can help you look at things underwater without salt stinging your eyes?
You might want to figure that out first.
Who are you taking with you? I really don't think it's safe going into that jungle alone.
Dinosaurs and giant bears are just the tip of the iceberg for what we know is in there.
[He'll let the hotel matter rest. They've agreed it's a good idea. Now if he can just get Senku to work on a few projects to make the raft thing safer...]

Of course I'm not going alone. I'm not much for fighting and shit like that anyway. I'm taking K with me. Squalo made it back from the volcano when he first came down here so it's doable, or was before the flood.

Squalo seems like he's a guy who can manage on his own out in the wilderness.
[Even given his complaints at the start, he's clearly competent in a physical sense from what Martin's gathered in talking to him and via radio stalking.]
