[The message goes out late enough that most people might have already fallen asleep for the night. It will be there in the morning, though. Martin is in pain, he's having trouble sleeping because of it, and people should definitely know about the boar. Even if it was just trying to defend itself in fear... Martin's not feeling his most sympathetic toward it right now.]
Hi, everyone!
I wanted to mention a conversation I had with Sol recently and also issue a general sort of warning.
Warning:
The boars around here are skittish and will potentially charge you.
If you have any food out, please make sure it's hidden as well as it can be.
The one I encountered was trying to eat our fish at the airstrip.
We can bring it into a hangar.
If you can get your food up into a tree if you're out in the wilds, that's probably best.
Boars naturally root around in the ground for things.
Or, if you've got a hard container, you can maybe put your food in there.
That's what I'll be doing for the waystations to try to dissuade anything from eating what they shouldn't.
Sol:
For anyone who doesn't know, Sol is one of the people on a nearby island.
They're probably one of the Glencolans that the PacAirs told us about.
They have strongly advised against trying to get across the ocean to their island.
There's something they call 'the trench,' which is where some sort of giant creature lives.
I think it's probably the whale god that the PacAirs believe in.
I know there are plans to maybe try rafting out, but I don't think that's a good idea.
I think a better plan is trying to get one of the drones we have reprogrammed and operational.
Then find anything like a camera and fix it to that so we can try to get photos or video.
Even someone's mobile if it still has a charge might work.
Jet also found a whole big hotel to explore.
There are a couple of places we could look for more and better supplies.
Just so we can be safe instead of risking people's lives.

Anyway, there's no guarantee that revival works even remotely like we seem to be assuming. But you can't really force people to care about the possibility of actually dying. They're not wrong about the odds. I don't want anyone getting killed because they think they're invincible either, but all you can do is give them the facts and hope for the best.
Weirdly, we found basically nothing inside the other hotel. It actually looked like nobody was staying there at all when it got struck by lightning. The bottom floors are a disaster of course, but the only evidence of life I found was the map plugin, and it was the only thing in the drawer.

That... is weird.
Maybe that place cleared out first?
Or because it's so easy to access, being on the ground, people have been by to pick it over.
I don't think we're the first people to get dropped here.
Even beyond the PacAirs.

These places look like they've been abandoned for, like... hundreds of years?
I'm honestly surprised we're finding anything viable.
But I think that probably means they were purposefully left or stuff just gets dumped in periodically like we do.
no subject
Either everyone left the building before the lightning strike or someone took pains to clear everything out afterwards. Neither makes much sense.
no subject
It seems like they should know some stuff.
And if we can bring them useful things, maybe they'd be willing to trade for info?
no subject
or to build goodwill
they'd be really good allies to have in an emergency

There are a couple of things we should probably talk to them about.
Even just to share information about threats on the island and what's changing outside their village.
We help them and they can help us! Hopefully.
I'm not much of a diplomat, though, and I definitely don't speak Morse Code.
Hoping someone else might be able to handle that.

But there are some military types.
And you seemed friendly when we met.
I think that sort of thing can go a long way in diplomacy, too.
Probably.
no subject
Not sure our military types are the best choice for diplomacy...

Maybe you're secretly the evil twin from the Mirror Verse.
And we'll meet... Bethanie, the good one, someday.
;P
That's a fair point, though.
Jet seems nice enough.
Shaw's... yeah, it's a fair point.

I worry a little about annoying them actually. They don't really need our help and there's no reason for them to accept it when our motives are so obviously suspicious.
i mean we are kind of talking about using kindness to manipulate them right now
no subject
I guess? But that's kind of what diplomacy is?
We help each other and both benefit.
I think we really can do some good for the Pacairs.
I want to help them.
It'd be great if they could help us, too.

I'm thinking maybe they don't travel far from their village for the most part.
We could offer to fetch things for them from further parts of the island.
In return, they'd tell us any good resources to fetch.
Maybe what fruits and things are safe to eat.
I've found some fruit, but I don't know if it's poisonous or not.
Reckon people who've been here longer have a better handle on that.
no subject
If they don't leave the area how would they know where stuff is to fetch?
no subject
If they think of the plane pieces as sacred sites, then I bet they make pilgrimages.
And I bet some of them explore at least a little bit.
You can't keep teenagers locked down in a tiny village forever.
Just thinking we could go fetch things easier and with less fuss from the grown-ups if kids are getting out.
no subject
It can't hurt to offer, in any case.
