[The message goes out late enough that most people might have already fallen asleep for the night. It will be there in the morning, though. Martin is in pain, he's having trouble sleeping because of it, and people should definitely know about the boar. Even if it was just trying to defend itself in fear... Martin's not feeling his most sympathetic toward it right now.]
Hi, everyone!
I wanted to mention a conversation I had with Sol recently and also issue a general sort of warning.
Warning:
The boars around here are skittish and will potentially charge you.
If you have any food out, please make sure it's hidden as well as it can be.
The one I encountered was trying to eat our fish at the airstrip.
We can bring it into a hangar.
If you can get your food up into a tree if you're out in the wilds, that's probably best.
Boars naturally root around in the ground for things.
Or, if you've got a hard container, you can maybe put your food in there.
That's what I'll be doing for the waystations to try to dissuade anything from eating what they shouldn't.
Sol:
For anyone who doesn't know, Sol is one of the people on a nearby island.
They're probably one of the Glencolans that the PacAirs told us about.
They have strongly advised against trying to get across the ocean to their island.
There's something they call 'the trench,' which is where some sort of giant creature lives.
I think it's probably the whale god that the PacAirs believe in.
I know there are plans to maybe try rafting out, but I don't think that's a good idea.
I think a better plan is trying to get one of the drones we have reprogrammed and operational.
Then find anything like a camera and fix it to that so we can try to get photos or video.
Even someone's mobile if it still has a charge might work.
Jet also found a whole big hotel to explore.
There are a couple of places we could look for more and better supplies.
Just so we can be safe instead of risking people's lives.

Could be multiples of the same thing, which is why it can seem like it's in more than one place at once.
I just think we should send something remotely-operated out first if we're going any real distance.
See if that gets attacked, and then send people out once we've ruled out, like... insta-death tentacles.
But Randvi's looked at the insides of some of the animals she's caught and they're... wrong.
We think they might be creatures that were revived like some people here have been.
And the more times you get revived... maybe the worse it gets?
Which is another reason I really don't want you and Senku throwing your lives away just to test that out.
It could be that you only get so many 'free' lives.
Or it could be we, as a group, only get so many before really bad physical things start happening.
Even if you want to discount the psychological effect of actually dying.

We don't have anything remotely operated, and we don't know if or when we will.
You know, I'd bet people believed the sea was full of insta-death tentacles before they started exploring, too. Imagine if Magellan waited for wi-fi to become a thing instead of setting off around the globe, huh? The world would be a shithole.
Some of us gotta take risks.
no subject
But this isn't Magellan's time.
We have drones that we're working on getting power and reprogramming.
We have whole swathes of the island we're on that haven't been explored.
It just seems kind of premature to jump to that when there's so much more we still need to do on land to uncover things.
Steph said she found some kind of weird door up north.
I think that's worth investigating and trying to get open.
Could be a lot of tech hidden in some secret bunker or give us access to the interior of the island.
no subject
Accepting staying here should be the last resort, not the first.
Weird door, huh?
[ He's... actually kind of interested in that! Wow, if it weren't for Martin he would really not be hearing any of the latest gossip, huh. ]
no subject
Just that we have a lot of ways to prepare for that kind of thing before we go to 'sail out and hope.'
I like the chances of your surviving if we have more than hope.
And yeah.
Weird door.
Figured some people who were a lot better with tech or just stronger might be able to do something with that.
This place might have been a military base.
Imagine they had radar and all sorts of equipment or charts and things that'll give us a way better idea of what's around than a couple of people on a tiny raft.
I mean, think about earth.
If you sailed straight north from Scotland, the first thing you're gonna run into is the north pole.
But if you knew you needed to go north and east a bit, you'd run into Norway.
no subject
I just wanna see what happens
Thanks for worrying but really it's fine
Australia's a bit harder to miss but I never said we'd just sail off toward the horizon if it does work
We're just checking the boundary if there is one
If it IS a military base, we're gonna need more than hope to get through that door you know that right
no subject
If you sail out and you see something that looks like a drop off, something where the water changes.
You won't sail through it.
You'll sail along it, instead.
So we can maybe get an idea of if the trench is around the whole island or just in one direction.
In return, I'll stop by that door and see if I can find more information about it while I'm up north with Jet.
no subject
[ And he's not telling him not to get in the water (anymore), at least. Just... to test one theory before doing something else. ]
[ Okay. He can do that. ]
Fine, I accept your terms. It's a deal.
[ And he may be many things, but he never breaks a contract. ]
no subject
I'll message Steph to get a better idea where the door is and contact you once I get there.
Might be a little bit with how slow I'm moving after that little run-in with one of the boar, but I'll make it a priority.
First one to die has to drink salt water tea.
no subject
[ He might not give this much leeway to most people, but he likes Martin. It's not like their deal has an expiration date; he definitely doesn't have to force movement after having just been trampled by a boar. ]
Yuck. That's only slightly worse than most tea.
no subject
I can't believe I'm stuck on an island with a tea-hater.
Sorry.
We're now the bitterest enemies.
That's my national heritage.
:P

Better start working on my snake pit
And my monologue for when we inevitably cross blades...

Give you a sort of twangy, dramatic background track for it.

Framed by sunset maybe
Symbolism or some shit
no subject
Before I slay you, of course.
no subject
The slayer will be me! You shan't persevere!
no subject
We always persevere!
Stiff upper lip, you know?

Make it back safely and then we'll plan our epic fight properly.
wrap?
Wait for me to return from the sea, challenger.
