Revenge? No, no. Nothing like that. We left a gift. I mean no harm to our friend in the cabin; I'd merely like to know who he is. Or she. You think he's gonna stay in that life? Not a lot of people change for good like that. Unless that was who he really was all along.

Chloe, I give you my word: No harm will come to Taissa, in the event you're indisposed. Anyone who wants to hurt her will have to go through me. Including Squalo. If I'm not able to protect her, I will hunt down anyone who hurts her and make them pay for it. You don't know want to know how I can do that.

[ Not that he's especially worried that Squalo will try to hurt Taissa. It sounds like he was trying to prevent people from getting hurt... in the most inefficiently Squalo way possible, of course.

And if this sounds unnecessarily altruistic for the island's other maniac who barely sleeps (non-axe-wielding variety, this time; or maybe not, considering he currently has Rust's axe in his possession)... well, as much as Lalo likes Chloe and enjoys talking to her simply for the pleasure of having somebody normal he can confide in, he also sees an opportunity when one drops into his lap. ]
