YL078T | Voice | Night 009
[Taissa has woken up in a new place much farther than ever before. It's too warm, even for night. The tropical trees growing just inland of the beach only confirm that this is considerably south of New Jersey. Her clothes are soaked through and she doesn't remember being in the water. Was there a shipwreck? There must be other boats nearby. The coast guard, or somebody, should be out there.
She picks up the only thing outside of herself that she has found on the sand so far. It looks like some sort of emergency radio. She listens to only a snippet of a message before calling out herself, but it sounds enough like military jargon to give her hope of timely rescue. She attempts to sound calm through her shock and confusion. Loud and clear.]
Hello? Who am I speaking to? This is Senator Taissa Turner. I seem to be lost and in need of assistance.
[Also in need of a quick transceiver tutorial, clearly.]

I could really use a little less complexity this week.

Wishful thinking. I thought it might be something like that at first, but...nah, we're outta luck. We might be in an archipelago, but I don't know if there's any other islands that close, or how we'd even get off this one yet. It's only been a few days, but obviously the longer we're stuck here, the more stressful it is when you got shit to do at home.
no subject
I'll help however I can. There's a lot of us, we'll figure it out. Hopefully your shit at home's more patient than mine.

[ Or until he feels that he's not going to get called a crazy person yet again, whatever. Not that what he says next will sound less insane. ]
But my stuff back home isn't all that time sensitive. Most of the people at home are still petrified. But as long as I can get back at all, I can revive them. So it's not extremely pressing. I'm concerned with getting everyone else home safely first.
[ Enough about that though! ]
As for helping here, let's make sure you're solid first, huh? Best I can give you at the moment: we have fresh water at the airfield in the southwest of the island. Though with so many people, we're gonna run thin. It's okay, we'll make the still bigger and we can boil stuff in a pinch. I wish we had more materials made of, like, glass.
no subject
I left all my glassware at home, but I'll have to see if I can make it there eventually. What is this airfield like? Is there a plane? You were able to find enough materials to make a still?
no subject
If there was a plane, I doubt we'd still be here. It's all pretty empty. Most technological things don't work, though there's evidence that they did at one point. There's something locked with a solar panel powering it. I'll get into it eventually, but it's pretty suspicious, right?
There's a hotel here too, what used to be some kind of resort. It's all burned out now, not habitable. That's why we're at the airfield. Safer here.
[ He does laugh at the glassware joke. He's fairly straightforward but he's not devoid of humour. ]
Doesn't take too much to make a solar still, just patience, vegetation, and tarp. We got all of that stuff. It's not the best water you've ever tasted but it's better than dying.
no subject
I definitely would like to check out everything over there. In the meantime, I'll keep an eye out for extra tarp. If I can't make it to your still then maybe you can walk me through making my own.
no subject
Easy as hell. Dig a hole. Shove all your vegetation in there. Put whatever you got to collect water on top of the vegetation, like bottles or a bucket, whatever. Pour seawater in all around that. Cover with a tarp. You want this all out in the sun. So here's what happens: the water evaporates, but it has nowhere to go, right? So it collects on the tarp, but it drips back down into whatever you're using to catch it. The salt stays underneath the plants. The salt is perfectly useable too, all on its own, and the water you have is desalinated.
We're still alive after drinking it for days, so I ten billion percent guarantee this method works.
no subject
How many days have you been here, exactly?
no subject
[ He's just a walking encyclopedia like that. And it sounds like bullshit, but he's completely deadpan serious. He does not want people to die if he can do anything about it. ]
This is the ninth day.

Petrified, that's right. Didn't happen where and when you're from, obviously, but the world I came from, every human being on earth was petrified in the year 2019, including me. Took me a long ass time to wake up, a little over 3,700 years. Most of the world's population is still petrified. I know how to save them, but I didn't have the means until recently.
Then this shit storm happened.
[ He laughs, that same laugh he uses as punctuation, especially when he's nervous or feeling some kind of feeling he'd rather not express any other way. ]
Bunch of people on this island think I'm out of my damn mind. You can think what you like, but my scientific knowledge is ten billion percent guaranteed to keep us from dying in the jungle regardless of where any of you came from or what you believe.
no subject
I will definitely appreciate any further knowledge you have to share.
[Which is her way of trying to diplomatically indicate that nothing he believes will be a problem unless he makes it a problem. She wants to survive, first and foremost, and appreciates that logic.]
no subject
You need to make something, ask me. I'll tell you how. I know more science than you've heard of.
[ He's only bragging a little bit. But it's also just true, he knows an ABSURD amount of things! ]
Beyond that, if you get to this part of the island, I can show you a couple things that might make you believe me a little. I don't care one millimeter if you don't, though. I'm gonna get everyone off this stupid ass rock and back home anyway. Someone's got to.
no subject
[Whether or not she ever believes him. With the unique things she has to look forward to on this island though, Taissa will likely be coming to terms with some new concepts a lot sooner than she can imagine.]
no subject
[ He's very earnest in this offer. Whatever else anyone thinks about him, he's got a TON of knowledge and he shares it for free. ]
Good luck, Senator.
[ He sounds a little like he's teasing when he calls her that but he just kind of...does that. ]
