The memories are kinda fuzzy, and it's hard to tell what was hallucinated and what wasn't, so, uh-- my intel's contaminated, I get that. But Cohle's seen it, I've seen it. The person who lives there, it's a weird lizard thing. Tall, scaled, reddish-brown. Wears clothes made out of pelts, but no shoes. Big fangs. Not bulky, but strong enough to hoist up a grown man. Moves fast.

[She pauses, on the cusp of saying more, but--]

I believe these actions were taken to deliver a message to us.

When Maddy disappeared, the scout leading the expedition left trail markers and a message for her in case she had simply become lost in the area. The markers were destroyed and the message gouged out.

Additionally, snares that I had laid by the river have been lifted and destroyed.
