[Jet doesn't typically do the radios. Too much chatter goes against how he works, but this time, there's an exception. He might have just texted if texting wasn't a pain in the ass right now. As it is, his voice sounds strained even through the crackle of the radio, which at least aids in masking the occasional sparking sound his shoulder is still giving off.]

JK002N -Jet- calling on anyone who's got an idea to spare. Martin and I are at a door, North-Northwest. There's...there's a card-reader here. Gave off a hell of a shock. Anyone find an employee card or anything? Or rubber gloves...

We're taking suggestions, cause it's definitely something beyond it.

[Caution tells him even this much might be dangerous to say if they're being monitored and someone doesn't want them over here...but leaving just yet wasn't an option and he wasn't an invalid yet. They could handle it.]

[It really had been too long since something had happened to Martin.]

Is that the door I showed you on the map? We found a card key here but it is decorated with flowers and Senku said it was for a hotel.

Yeah, pretty sure it's the same one. Could be attached to the hotel...but it seems kinda far for it. All we had was a library card.

She described it to me as military so I'm not sure it will work, but it's worth a try. The hotel here is so damaged that locked doors aren't really a concern.

I'm still not convinced the hotel wasn't for military, but possibly not. Military installations just aren't known much for keeping in their own designated space.

I don't suppose we’ll truly know until we know what the people who built these places were doing here.

Maybe once we find enough evidence. Some surviving documents would be the most useful. Better than local hearsay.

It's strange. It really does seem like everything has been deliberately cleared out.

If they had advanced warning and were organized enough about it, an emergency shut down would explain why some things are still here, but nothing actually informative or useful.

That is what it's seemed like to me: these places have been systematically cleared out.

Yeah. Orders on high. The question remains why...and we don't have enough to do anything but guess. For now.

My advice is to not try to force open a door that might be booby trapped or needed for future opening and closing.

If I was determined to do exactly what I really shouldn't, though, I'd rip my shoes up and wedge tools into them. And then brace myself for something new and exciting to try to kill me, and then brace myself again to get chewed out by 3 different people for at least 2 hours each.

I mean, all you guys pull such insane stunts that it's actually making me the smart one. It's a weird feeling. I don't really mind it, mostly, but it does take some of the thrill out of climbing wreckage and dodging wild animals.

You're prying at a panel that tried to electrocute you. Though that doesn't come close to doing anything on that tiny raft. Going after that cabin tops it all for straight-up suicidal though.

I didn't actually do that. But fine. A lot of people take risks here that I don't approve of. The raft was... we kind of needed to get to Maddy quickly. It wasn't a great option, but we didn't have any good ones.

[He sighs quietly to himself.]

The cabin thing people have been after has definitely been inadvisable. I felt- it's weird, though. I think I was getting a feeling to go toward it a little while ago. It's still sort of here. Like this pull inside me.

Have you been feeling off at all?

No, the cabin thing crossed the line from "unwise" to "insane" a while ago. There are too many other options to look for clues. But there are worse ways to be than "suicidally insane".

[ She thinks about that for a moment. ]

Best bet's a matching key card if anyone's found one, but does the reader have a USB port anywhere that you can see?

[ K includes a low-res monochromatic photo of it: the device looks like a circuit board. ]

It could theoretically be used to access the reader, maybe, if it can connect... I mean, he used it on me and it worked. So we know it's at least functional and compatible with android-level technology. That shock, though. Are either of you injured?

Sounds like a useful tool to try.

For the ar-ard... arduino? [He's never heard of that before.] Um... for that, I think we'd still need to get the panel off. It doesn't look like there are any ports.

Not that he doubts their competence, their responses just worry him; he can't help thinking things may be worse than either is letting on. But what can he even do from the airfield? They're pretty far out on the island. ]

What caused the shock? Contact with the door? Be careful with that panel. I would think there's unlikely to be any hidden ports underneath... but who really knows in this place. If it seems too dangerous, I think you just leave it. At least until you have some key cards to try, or adequately protective gear.

He was using a screwdriver to pry the panel off. We haven't got any better tools right now and the panel doesn't have much on it. I think it was just that he hit some sort of wire while he was working it. And the screwdriver sent it shooting right through him.

We'll definitely be waiting for a keycard before trying that again. I think we can explore around the area. Or I can while Jet recovers.

[He says, staring directly at Jet with a disapproving look.]

To a point. Don't need to go and run into more trouble.

I've got a usb cord with me, if we do manage to get the port off. If it doesn't electrocute us again, we can try the arduino. I wouldn't want it...messing it up if we were able to plug it in.

Maybe a stick'll work better next time.
