Hey! I think my comm just sent out a distress call. Sorry, ignore it, I'm totally fine.

[ Her voice is sheepish and a bit flustered. It's obvious that she pushed some buttons without thinking. ]

I found a plugin and apparently that's what it does, it just... doesn't come with any instructions. I'm pretty sure I turned it off? But I unscrewed the thing too just to be sure.

Oh! Speaking of plugins, I found what looks like an SD card, but it's just a little too small for the slot on the comms. If anyone finds something that it could plug into, let me know.

That's a little square thing, an SD card. Like... as thick as your thumb, and a little longer? Made out of the same stuff as the comms are.

They're not, but it makes them significantly easier.

I dunno, I'm not really too worried. The SOS doesn't tell you what's wrong or who's sending it, so if you're trying to take advantage of someone that's hurt it's way more of a gamble than just listening to the comms. For one thing, fricken half the population has guns.

And as for a trap... I mean, if someone is asking for help, I'm going to help, whether it's a trap or not. You know?

I'm not worried about people among us as much as I am about the others living here who have radios. When we were called to rescue the injured woman in the north, those who have already killed some of us would have been able to reach them faster than we could.

You mean the cabin guy?

He can hear our messages. And he's probably the one who put out the bear trap in the first place. He definitely knew what happened and where she was.

I don't mean to scare you, but I'm not sure you realize just how vulnerable all of us are. If any of those people wanted to kill someone it would've been easy. If they wanted to kill whoever they could find, or whoever might be injured, even if they wanted to kill someone specific. That nobody's been killed away from that cabin means that nobody cares enough to want us dead right now.

I don't know who I mean. That first time, Sameen mentioned being hit from multiple angles. We don't know who is out there, or what they know about us. The women had moved from the original site where the trap had been located, and we have no idea whether that actually made them more safe. All we can do is try to take precautions when we can, isn't it?

Pretty much. That's life for you: We're probably fine, but if we're not, we're totally screwed.

That seems to be how things work an alarming amount of the time.

Please do not be concerned about frightening me. In a survival situation, with the deficits I have, knowledge is important even if I don't like it.

That's true, you handle yourself well. Especially considering you were one of the first ones accused of being delusional.

I don't blame her for that. I think it's easier to believe for me, the time difference, because the technology here corroborates your stories.

Still, it's not easy to deal with. It got annoying real fast.

I don't know, I think she respects me more than some of the people who believe me.

Yeah, I mean, she hasn't been rude about it to me either since the first time. I just mean you're good at rolling with the punches.

Are you kidding? I'm glad you took me along. Climbing that mess was fun.

It was. My only regret was that the roof was too unstable to climb. The view from up there would have been exciting.

You'd've loved the Gotham rooftops. Some of the buildings are 10 times higher than that hotel. Best view in the world, if you ask me.

I don't think I could stand to live in a city like that but I would love to see one.

True, and it's not a great place to visit, either. If we get the chance I'll try to take you someplace nicer. We've got machines that will carry you all the way to the top, so you don't even have to climb.

Oh, like what Jet saw at the cliffs?

I dunno, I didn't hear about that. But probably? It's called an elevator, it's a huge box that moves up and down.

He called it a “lift” I think. It sounded like a platform to bring supplies to the top of the cliff. Like a pulley system except that it doesn't work.

[ichoosefight]

Oh, yeah, maybe! They call it that in some places. It is a pulley system, it's just too heavy to be moved by hand, so a machine does it.

I would like to see even that. All of these self-propelled things.

I'll make sure to let you know if I find anything like that. We know there's some stuff that works around here, even if it's only the lights.
