doomcame: (deliver me that bad news baby)

YL078T | Voice | Morning 013

We found a cat. Black fur, violet eyes. Well-cared for. Weirdly intelligent... maybe even trained if that's possible... [She still can't believe it led them to water like some sort of bitey little service animal.]

Is anyone missing a pet?

[And once she's taken a few steps away from where Chloe can effectively hobble after her to intervene, she strategically drops a more pressing concern.]

We also have someone with leg injuries. We did the best we could but we'll need something to boil water in and fresh bandages soon. If someone with more supplies or experience can lend a hand, we can give you our location or try to meet you halfway. It's not easy to move right now.

Watch out for bear-traps.

That's true. Wish I could build a greenhouse — a structure for housing plants year-round. [ It's said almost wistfully. There's so much he'd like to build if he had the proper tools. ]

You guys know I can hear all this, right? I don't need a babysitter.

Anyway, I think you're right about growing food, especially since more of us keep showing up here. We can't just hope mangoes on trees stay ripe forever.

I'll think of a solution. Maybe we could turn one of the bungalows into a greenhouse if we find more tarps or things like that to wall 'em off. Easier than building a whole damn building when we don't have enough tools.

Think of it as an honour guard. I think you've been held at the point of a blade more than enough recently.

[She’s not aiming to protect you from your own decisions this time, just other people’s idiocy]

If such a thing can be constructed in one of the longhouses, I can clear it out soon.
hyakuoku: (017)

[personal profile] hyakuoku 2023-07-12 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Honour guard, huh? Sounds ten billion percent cooler than babysitter.

[ It's still kind of babysitting, he thinks, but he'll argue somewhere else. ]

What it needs is a space we can completely close off but that sunlight will still get to. Ideally we close it off with something like clear plastic. That's something like the tarps are made of, but clear so the light gets in. Has to be closed off to keep temperature and humidity stable. You and I can probably work on clearing something out.

[Get kidnapped less and we’ll talk]

Is it all right? The Detective told me plastic is “shit”.

[personal profile] obeir 2023-07-14 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
In what context?

Plastic's useful for a variety of things.

The material from which the radio is constructed.

[personal profile] obeir 2023-07-14 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Huh. That has K considering his radio for several moments. It's heavy duty, military grade. Meant to withstand harsh conditions. ]

I'm guessing he wasn't commenting on the radio's quality? These are pretty sturdy. Heavy enough to double as blunt weapons.

You'd have to ask him. These are the only ones I've seen.

[ He'd like to hope the detective was just using a turn of phrase and wasn't intentionally spreading misinformation to someone who has no way of knowing any better, but. K also hasn't spoken much with the guy. ]

I suppose I will. At any rate, the type of plastic Senku's referring to is a bit different — it would be good for greenhouse purposes. Do you have experience tending to crops?
meadqueen: (Default)

[personal profile] meadqueen 2023-07-16 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Not on my own. I oversee the work of our farmers and may lend a hand when it's required, but always under the farmers’ direction.

[ He laughs almost like a real laugh. ]

Depends on the context. Plastic is ten billion percent useful depending on what you need it for. For a makeshift greenhouse, it will do fine. But it's hard to make ourselves, so we're dependent on just scavenging it.

[personal profile] meadqueen 2023-07-14 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That seems to be the case for many things. There may be more material in the longhouses.

Insurance against getting ambushed again, not babysitting. You can do whatever you want, it's what other people do that concerns me.

That would be great if we can get one set up. More tarps, added to the shopping list.

[ Though he still laments not having so much as a proper hammer or saw here. Hopefully he'll at least find an axe one of these days. ]
hyakuoku: (018)

[personal profile] hyakuoku 2023-07-12 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He laughs because of course he does. ]

Yeah, other people are still wild cards, huh? I don't think anyone else is nearby now, though. Anyway, if that Levi guy is still around, whoever comes anywhere near might have to deal with him.

[ Is he just assuming Levi will play security guard because he's obviously paranoid? MAYBE ]

Or maybe big pieces of plastic of any kind, but I think tarps are more likely. I think we can probably rig something up. We'll work on it when you guys get back.
wingbound: (lineface // never said you were wrong)

not here (or is he)

Think he's going to cause any more trouble on our way out of here? [ At least Randvi's staying this time, which eases some of K's concerns.

It also has him thinking about setting up some sort of proximity alarms around the perimeter of the airbase, something that he'll mention to Senku and Randvi off-network and in person. ]

PVC plastic? I believe that's what most inflatables are made of. We might be able to turn up some of those at the resort if we keep looking.
hyakuoku: (005)

[personal profile] hyakuoku 2023-07-14 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I got something he wants that's not ready yet.

[ You can practically hear the hehehehe in his tone. ]

PVC, yep, should work as long as some of it is clear. Inflatables…yeah. I wonder if there's an area near the pool that actually had stuff in it that hasn't been wrecked. When you get back, let's have a look there.

Not related to what we're planning with Zam, I hope. [ You know, materials to blow stuff up. K just isn't sure he wants to trust someone with a propensity for kidnapping and threatening people with that sort of thing, at least not until they know more about Levi. ]

Sounds like a plan. [ A beat. ] Assuming there won't be an immediate need for another rescue mission.

[ Predicting the future... ]

[personal profile] hyakuoku 2023-07-17 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ His regular little laugh morphs into something closer to real laughter. ]

Don't worry! It's just some stuff made with seaweed. No big deal.

[ It's really not, but he's not going to advertise we have soap! all over the network until they actually do. He figures pretty much everyone will want some at this point. ]

Let's hope there's not another one right away. Or if there is, let Randvi go next time.
