[Taissa has woken up in a new place much farther than ever before. It's too warm, even for night. The tropical trees growing just inland of the beach only confirm that this is considerably south of New Jersey. Her clothes are soaked through and she doesn't remember being in the water. Was there a shipwreck? There must be other boats nearby. The coast guard, or somebody, should be out there.

She picks up the only thing outside of herself that she has found on the sand so far. It looks like some sort of emergency radio. She listens to only a snippet of a message before calling out herself, but it sounds enough like military jargon to give her hope of timely rescue. She attempts to sound calm through her shock and confusion. Loud and clear.]

Hello? Who am I speaking to? This is Senator Taissa Turner. I seem to be lost and in need of assistance.

I was more worried about not dying. But I figure if our kidnappers are tracking us, the comms are probably the least reliable way.

I fell in a river, then I woke up here. I thought those two things were connected, but it doesn't seem like something you could accomplish from psych class.

The chances of washing all the way down a river and then back up a beach are pretty low too.

Easiest answer is that we were drugged, enough to wipe out a few hours of memory, then dumped here just close enough to shore that we wouldn't drown.

Okay, but dropping us on an island to be killed by crossbow guys is way too much work. Like, last time these guardians were trying to kill me I was there to steal their shit.

That's what I'm hoping to find out. As is stands all I know is that someone wanted us here. With no other clear motive, I have to assume it's for kicks. The Most Dangerous Game, or whatever.

Okay, and they somehow snatched a kid right off campus and an American politician instead of just offering people money if they win like a normal supervillain?

Are you kidding? Kidnapping is free. And most of those creeps would enjoy it more this way.

The island, drugs, helicopter, and crossbow guys aren't free.

Doesn't feel self-congratulatory enough for me. In my experience those guys never stop monologuing.

I know the stuff they broadcast online, sometimes they'll pick an unwilling target. They have commentary like it's a football game, and make money running bets. I guess it's more entertaining when we're running around like rats in a maze than when we know what's going on.

That really doesn't track, but it is a possibility.

And what, the guardians are for if we get too buddy-buddy since we didn't get explicit instructions? I guess.
