Our settlement is small; many of our problems are not especially severe. More salt for the horses, who thinks who is making too much noise in the mornings, the skald teaching the children insults again...

Occasionally Holger steals something and sets everyone into a furor.

Holger is an artist, and sometimes he takes our idea of communal property in a strange direction.

The last time, he cut off a horse’s tail without asking in order to fashion a painting brush. The stable master was furious! I was afraid it would come to blows.

That was one of the ones that I bade Eivor handle.

Rowan, the stable master, is a Saxon that we rescued from bandits, so he is still unused to our ways even without the manner that Holger pushes them to their limits.

Not to mention that for whatever reason, he took every last hair off the horse’s tail. She looked ridiculous.

In the end the only punishment was that Holger had to publicly apologize, as the horse’s value was only temporarily diminished.
