It's pretty clear from the talk of drones and communication ability that we're not living in primitive times or the dark ages on this island. Or if we are, we're forced into it.

Randvi and I made a pretty exciting find, though. The village she was talking about looks to be some kind of resort area. There's a hotel, or maybe apartments. Hard to tell since it's all burned out. I'm thinking hotel, though, since there's a restaurant and pool area. It's all messed up and shitty now, but I bet it was nice when it was up and running. How long ago that was…I'm not sure yet.

There's an airstrip and some hangars northwest of here. Found a sign in English that said "Warning: Restricted Area." It had another language, southeast Asian. Tagalog? Indonesian? I'm not entirely sure, but it's not a language I speak. I assume it said the same thing, considering the sign. For some reason, the writing wasn't translated automatically the way the words we say to each other or write on the devices seem to be. Interesting, right?

Here's another weird thing. I could see that there were some plugs in the floor. Simplified, but still...I ten billion percent guarantee that some kind of tech plugged in there before. But I couldn't find even one scrap of wiring anywhere. We could probably get the floor up and investigate if we had tools, but I don't currently have anything like that, and I don't have the brute strength or reverse engineering ability to do it.

One of the little house things here has solar panels. I think there's power to it, but we couldn't actually get in. I'll work on it. Those little houses had the plugs I was talking about, too.

So this kind of luxury resort space…what the hell happened here? I didn't find any corpses or blood or what have you. Some old tinned food and an empty beer bottle.

Oh. One more thing. Any of you guys aware of an animal that could chew a shark into pieces? Yesterday on the beach I found a shark fin with tooth marks in it. Whatever ate a shark, I don't wanna meet.

It was daytime. The bits of hide might still be where I left them but I really mangled the job... Meat is on the green side. I'll let you know if it kills me :D

Hard to do that if you're dead but good luck. If you do find another one, I'd be interested to have a look at any part of it. Maybe I can figure out what's making it glow, if it's something inherent or something done to it.

I'd need more tools first. Microscope at the very least. But in theory I could come up with something.

But between this and the crocodile dinosaur thing that other guy mentioned, we really might be looking at animal life we're not used to seeing.

Noticed any unusual plant life? I don't know enough about plants to judge whether anything is just slightly off.

I haven't noticed anything too strange, but we do have quite a variety that's turned up, from peas to guavas. Without knowing where we are in the world, it's hard to say what might be "unusual."

Though with signs in a southeast Asian language and in English...are we really in Asia or are we supposed to believe we are?

Considering the pains taken to get us to this island, I wouldn't trust anything man-made to follow normal logic. We could be off the coast of Africa for all we know.

I had a similar thought. Geographically, I don't think we can really place ourselves. And considering the multiverse thing, using something like star positions might not be reliable either. So "unusual" plant life might not matter as much.

Though finding some interesting flora might help us if we need something like antidotes for those drone drugs. That would require tests, though, and more equipment than I currently have, not to mention the drug itself.

I think for now we'll just take "unusual" to mean "something that stands out more than other things" but I haven't seen plants that have yet. It would be pretty weird if it was just the animals that did that, though, so maybe there's some really wild plant life we haven't found yet!

Also true. Might not even be Earth. Keep us all updated on the unusual front, though. I don't know that much about edible wild greens, mostly mushrooms and berries, but it's really limiting my diet.

I'm not a botanist specifically but yeah, I'll keep an eye out.

I survived on stuff like mushrooms and greens for about six months once. It's terrible, right? We found some fruit, but not much. Guavas and coconuts. Better than all mushrooms though. You sure you know what's not poisonous there? It can be hard to tell.

We found some canned stuff too, actually. Randvi found fish and I found...well, cat food. Haven't resorted to it yet.

I'm not eating anything I can't identify. Except for glowing deer and fish. But hey a girl needs protein

Maybe the deer is glowing from something it ate anyway. It could be totally safe. As for fish, most fish shouldn't be poisonous to consume. Better than just mushrooms and berries!

idk, that might be weirder. I don't think I've ever heard of poisonous grazing animals, though. it definitely looked like a deer.

I was more worried it was radioactive than poisonous, but there would be other signs of radioactivity besides one weird deer.

If it was radioactive I feel like it would look very very different.

If it had some kind of radiation poisoning, sure, but low level radioactivity that creates just a glow, maybe not. It's just conjecture, though. Even if I saw it it's not like I could analyse it without a lab setup.

Other than that, bioluminescence in a mammal...I wonder if it's some kind of experiment that escaped from somewhere.

I think I saw something like it in Africa once, minus the glowing, but I didn't really learn the wildlife while I was there. I'll pay more attention next time.

What part of Africa? I did travel there to study for a little while but it's not like I saw a whole damn continent either, and there's a lot of variation obviously. But maybe I can make a guess as to a similar animal, sans glow.

What were you doing in Africa?

Thinking of African mammals that are deer-like though, there's the impala or dik-dik, maybe. Or just an antelope.

I was with Doctors Without Borders. Not as a doctor though, just as a hanger-on. It had striped legs.

Oh, interesting! I was in Africa to learn about diseases and medicine. That's where I learned to make sulfa drugs.
