RE419S | Day 3 | Night | Audio
[ After dropping out of radio contact at the beginning of night two, Rust's voice comes crackling over the channel almost a full day later. ] Alright, I'm gonna make this quick. [ True to his word, he's speaking at a more rapid clip than usual, some of his words running together. He sounds focused, but without the intensity that tends to accompany it—he's running down a list. ]
Drones—least five altogether, though they go out in shifts—are patrolling the beach to the northeast. Jungle too, but they're more of a threat out in the open. Assume if you can hear that unauthorized transport announcement you're at risk. You hear a mechanical hum, you find cover and you stay still.
You don't know what a drone is, picture a worker bee without the queen. Or a cattle prod untethered from human conscience. They're metal, airborne, and, once they catch sight of you, very fucking fast. If they grab you, they'll electrocute you, drug you, and toss you in a tiny cell.
Animals don't like 'em either, and out here, if the animals don't like it, you don't like it.
Questions. Anyone here with medical knowledge or supplies? Anyone who knows about planes? I'll take practical or theoretical.
[ Threadjack away! Sorry this is like 3 infoposts in one! ]

PFFFFFT.
The sheer magnitude of the eye roll Lalo just gave reading that horseshit was almost enough for him to physically strain something. Almost.
The voice that comes over the walkie is quiet, like someone in pain. ]
I'm afraid you're too late, Detective. Too many of us know all of this by now. I...
[ He trails off. His voice shakes.
But wait. A thought occurs to him. It's too good to be true though. Has to be. ]
Where are you now? Safe, I hope...

[ How well that amputation would go afterwards is anybody's guess though. ]
no subject
It's still a weird fucking thing to say. ] Notice you didn't have to ask whether catching cold would qualify you as a doctor.
How'd you go about deciding to amputate?
no subject
[ It takes him a moment to connect the dots, then he snorts. ]
You didn't specify for an aircraft engineer. [ He points out simply; the closer equivalent here would have been asking whether anyone knows anything about colds, which, yes, catching one would qualify in that case. ]
Infection or irreparable damage, I guess.
[ "I guess"... surely inspires confidence, doesn't it? ]

Sure do. Picked it up from a tree.

Any idea what they drugged you with?
no subject
Yeah, I can do wilderness-type shit. [ Just for the benefit of anyone listening. ] Won't be pretty but it'll keep your insides in. That what you mean?

Hey, I live to serve.
I've had to use it way more often than I'd like, and only on myself about half the time.

[ SORRY he's just like this. It's probably insufferable! But his tone is matter-of-fact. He just knows a lot of stuff. ]
Did drugging you make you unconscious? Just stunned? Very sick?
The drones, was there any sort of beam of light indicating range of vision? That might be too much to hope for.
no subject
Ah, no on the drones. They've got some lights come on at night, but nothing bright enough to navigate by.
I'm looking for medical knowledge as pertains to our current situation. Planes, someone who knows their way around a cockpit, navigation systems.
no subject
[ He's also not a medical doctor or anything, so this is somewhat outside of his area of expertise; he knows what he's read about, but his brand of science is decidedly not this. ]
I wish I could get my hands on one of those drones. I could take it apart a little and see how it worked. If we knew that, we could better plan how to counteract the others, not to mention use some of the parts…
[ He's thinking out loud a little, don't mind him. ]
As far as the drug goes, without analysing the chemical makeup of it, it's hard to say what could counteract it, too. I'm not a doctor in any sense. I've read a lot so I know some stuff, but it would be better if we had a real medical doctor. I don't think we do. But I do know first-aid and wound treatment care if we need it. I know a lot about what kinds of plants we could use in lieu of 21st century style medicine. I'm just…far away from most of you, which might not be the most helpful in your current situation.
Planes, though, I know more about. Well, more specifically I know about spacecraft, but navigational systems aren't that different, right?
[ RIGHT? It depends, probably. ]
Things like radar, sonar, and basic controls, I know how those things work and have flown a plane a little. Not a very advanced plane, though.
[ He says everything so matter-of-fact like he just expects people to believe him. It doesn't occur to him that he sounds unbelievable, but he's not a liar and he doesn't exaggerate, so Rust can take it however he wants. ]
Do we actually have a plane to fly?
JK002N; voice
The three drones here are out permanently, saw to two of them myself.
I'm an air force pilot and know about as much, practically, as a rocket mechanic. Did you find some wings on this rock?
no subject
Hah. [ More vocalization than laugh, sharp. ] Found a busted-ass cockpit right off the shore. Commercial, enormous, been there a long time. Was wondering if there was a chance of recovering anything, flight-path-wise.
no subject
But, no, only if the blackbox is still intact or even kept in there. Depends on the plane. Maybe if one of the pilots were chatty with a diary, but I'd assume you'd have found something like that.
Just the cockpit, though...did it look like it was broken off or shorn off?
