it seems like morning right now so we can probably assume that direction is east!

[ Lalo's shoes are drying in the sun as he wiggles his toes into the warm sand, watching the whales expel mist from their blowholes. Beautiful sight!

He watches the text scroll across his walkie some amusement. He just saw you bang it out a few minutes ago, so he knows it's you. He reads it, then snorts. ]

Ayyy now, you don't have to do anything, kid. [ He winks. ] Nobody's making you.

[ But a roll call isn't a bad idea! He'd had the same thought himself. ]

[For all that his message is cheery and irreverent, Kokichi's face as he typed it out was nearly unreadable. A little thoughtful, maybe. It's kind of unsettling after how highly emotive he'd proven to be at first glance.

But as he's addressed, he plasters on a grin before looking up, still sitting cross-legged in the sand.]

Well, obviously. Supreme leaders don't take orders from anyone!

[He's a scrawny, shrimpy babyfaced teen, so his theatrics really come across as a kid just playing around.]

[ "Supreme leader," huh? The phrase conjures up images of North Korea. Lalo hums and sings softly to himself as he squishes sand between his toes. One foot squishes more aggressively; it's slight, but he's clearly babying one leg. Seen through a teenager eye's, he's definitely Old, i.e., late 30s to early 40s, despite his antics.

Anyway, this kid did have a good idea with the roll call and it seems like there's more to him than meets the eye, no matter how much he resembles a skinny, overgrown toddler playing pretend right now with his "Supreme Leader" talk. And he has purple eyes! That's cool. Lalo has never seen that before! He's never seen anyone who looks or dresses like this kid. Lalo looks Kokichi up and down approvingly while Kokichi sits in the sand.

Kokichi's neutral face transitioning to a plastered-on grin will be met with Lalo's own big grin. Then Lalo turns away. ]

Well, nice meetin' ya, kid! See you around. Good luck, eh? Don't let the things that go bump in the night get ya.

Ah, who'm I kidding! You're the "Supreme Leader." You'll do great.

[ There's something teasing in the way Lalo says that, but the reason for the teasing note is harder to decipher. Is he making fun of Kokichi? Or is it a genuine acknowledgment, a winking I-know-potential-when-I-see-it-and-you-have-it sort of playful encouragement? It's genuinely hard to say.

Lalo limps over to find his shoes, pleased to find they're mostly dry now from sitting in the sun. His bandana, too, has been drying in the warm sun. He starts to gather up his things, occasionally glancing at his walkie to see who else responds to the kid's missive.

In the distance, a whale spouts, the tall stream standing out against the blue horizon. ]

[He's not inclined to trust total strangers, even less so in a situation like this. Anyone could be a threat, whether out of simple selfishness or because they're secretly involved in whatever's really going on here. He doesn't have enough information to even begin putting the pieces together yet.

But this isn't like the last time he woke up in a strange place full of strangers. The setting seems much larger, and ironically less hospitable than the killing game was. There's no sign of living quarters or a kitchen that'll be kept stocked full of food. This may an entirely different kind of survival game, one that he knows very well he's not well-equipped for. Hell, he doesn't even have a shirt beyond the oversized jacket draped over his shoulders.

So be it. He doesn't have to trust people to make use of them.

And so, as the man gets up and says his goodbyes, Kokichi gapes for a moment as if in shock before scrambling to his feet in a scattering a sand. He trails after the man like a lost puppy, hurriedly pulling the jacket on properly.]

Ehhh? W-wait, you're really just gonna ditch a little kid out in the wilderness?!

[He summons up fake tears far too easily. Who knows if they'll be at all effective – He doesn't know shit about this guy, and the sort of person who'd just abandon a kid is already probably morally questionable. Extremely irresponsible, at least! But hey, if he's gonna look so young, he might as well abuse the hell out of it. With his stature and teary, youthful face and the too-big jacket dwarfing him even further, he probably looks closer to twelve than sixteen.]

[ Yep. He's not sharing his own location. But it does seem that they're on the opposite ends of the island, since Squalo can only see water to the west, so... As long as he doesn't head directly east, it should be fine. ]

You haven't actually introduced yourself for this roll call, but I'm Martin. And I don't see any mountains. There's just beach. I'm about as far east as I think I can go before hitting some sort of ocean shelf. I can see where it drops off a little ways out from where I am on the beach. I'm going to start heading, um... west. Northwest-ish. It's following the coastline.
